Dear reader, I have here summerised 5 indicators, that Donald Trump could threaten American democracy. This column is an expression of my opinion, and cannot thereby be interpreted as undisputed facts, although sources are provided for the material used to summerise these points.

  1. The obvious connection to project 2025

Project 2025 is a ultra conservative transition project, that aims to replace all key civil servants with personel loyal to the conservative Trump administration. 1 The result would according to experts be catastrofic, as it would erase all aquired knowledge in one blow in key positions, and replace this, with a no questions asked support for the president in all key civil servant positions. Trump has refused knowledge of this transition project, while several of his former staffers are still central figures in the project. In my opinion it is highly unlikely, that a project as massive as this, and with many former loyal Trump employees on staff, that Trump would know nothing about this project.

2. The Silicon Valley connection

Elon Musk, the Owner of Tesla and X, is openly supporting Donald Trumps run for the White House. He has used the X platform to spread misinformation and micredit in order to influence the election. Elon Musk has had several strong political views, among others one to end “wokeness”.

What many don’t recognize, is the importance of another power move made, by another Tech mogul by the name of Peter Thiel more than a decade ago. Peter Thiel then accepted JD. Vance as his proteché, then later supported JD. Vance in his rise to power in politics. It has been suggested that several of these Tech moguls worked behind the scenes, to get J.D Vance the nomination for VP under Trump.

Other aparent Supporters of the Trump campaign are venture capitalist David Sacks, and tech billionaire Marc Andreesen. Thiel has so far refused to donate to the Trump Campaign in 2024, but donated to the campaign in 2016. 2 Peter Thiel has also been quoted for saying, that he believes that freedom and democracy no longer can coexist.

3. The January 6th. Insurrection, The statement that Trump knew he had lost the election but still asked his followers to march to the capitol in protest.

During the investigation into the January 6th. insurrection. It came to the attention of Sr. Investigative Counsel Temidayo Aganga-Williams, that Trump had actually admitted to his own staff, that he lost the election. This however, was not what Donald Trump told his supporters. In public, Donald Trump pushed the agenda that the election was stolen, and in the wake of his continuous instigative comments and speeches, january 6th became a reality. Trump later admitted that he watched the insurrection on tv for several hours, without appealing for his supporters to stop the insurrection.3

4. The 2018 Helsinki Summit. Trump “Kneeling” before Vladimir Putin, was in sharp contrast to intelligence on Russian Election interference.

July 16, 2018 was the day of the Helsinki Summit. For a long time and leading up to the summit US intelligence had been collecting evidence, that Russia has participated in large scale efforts to influence the US election4. The first findings that Russia was indeed behind the election interference were released by the US Senate select comittee on intelligence in may of 2018, well before Trump met with President Putin in July. President Trump however chose on the podium to side with Vladimir Putin on the very question, on whether or not he believed Russia was involved in these efforts, thereby rejecting the findings of both the US intelligence community and the Senate select committee. John Bolton, whom was Trumps national security advisor at the time, has later stated that he was watching it unfold from the floor in complete disbelief.5

5. When Trump said he “had every right” to interfere with the 2020 election.6 7

On the 1st of September 2024, FOX NEWS conducted an interview where the former president went on the air stating that he had every right to interfere with the 2020 election. The former president faces state and federal charges, for attempting to illegaly overturn the election results in his 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden.

When looking back at statements and actions made or conducted, both when President Trump was last POTUS and later on, it is clear in my mind that there are several indications that Trump is a danger to American democracy as we know it.

The praise for Dictators, the use of Musk and X as a base for spreading misinformation, and the clear and complete disregard for the democratic process regarding democratic elections and acceptance of the results, all point in the wrong direction when it comes to preserving american democracy.
